What doesn’t grow, dies. And what dies feeds the tarmogoyf.

I think it would be unbecoming of me to pretend that this website has been anything but inactive for a long while, and I want to take an opportunity to apologize for that.  A lot of things have happened in the past year that have made maintaining consistent content on my own a very big hurdle.  Not to make excuses for myself on my lack of follow through or anything, but I changed jobs a few times, and I’ve hit some rough patches in my personal life as well, much of which included the people I started this website with.

The people in my social circle at the time were what you would probably consider your average grinders.  I don’t think that we had any kind of unique perspective on the game or even anything innovative in the way that we used to test for events or build decks, but we did have one thing going for us, we were entertaining.  I honestly believed that there was a way to capture this and bottle it up into this website, and I guess in a lot of ways that was naive of me.  I think a lot of the reason it didn’t really happen is that people humored me when I talked about having them help me with content creation for the site.  I think they saw how excited I got about it and they just pretended to make me feel good about it because they were my friends and didn’t want to hurt my feelings, but they never really had any intentions of actually doing it.

Over the last year, maybe a little bit longer, a lot of my friendships have changed drastically.  This time last year I had an entirely different group of friends, with only a few of the old faces remaining.  There are a lot of personal details that led up to this happening that I don’t think any Magic players would be interested in, but the long and short of it is that I truly believe that I have found a small group of people who do want to be part of this community here, and are willing to put in the work that it would take.

We often find ourselves sitting in someone’s living room after FNM just shooting the shit about the game and why we love it, and unlike before, these people actually want to make this thing work.  Instead of me bringing it up to them as a “I think I’m going to turn this into an article” I instead am prompted by them with a “WE should turn this into an article/video/stream/podcast.”  I think a large part of this is that I’ve started hanging around more creative people, but also I think that it comes down to having found some folks who genuinely enjoy this game for what it is and don’t just see it as some type of ladder to climb.

Lowki and I have some plans to start up a stream for our Magic testing.  I have spent a good bit of time learning to edit and produce video content over the past year in anticipation for this relaunch.

With all of that being said, look forward to all sorts of different content here.  I look forward to welcoming anybody and everybody who would like to join and contribute.  And most of all, I look forward to having anybody who will read along for the ride.
